The “Vendée Globe” boat race is a wonderful pedagogical tool for discovering plenty of technological abilities.
The evolution of technical artefacts, the study of materials, some technical vocabulary, the design of such a thing as a rudder blade or a canting keel with the use of a 3D printer and the programming of an autopilot equipped with a microcontroller and a servomotor – these are some of the topics now studied in 3rd and 4th cycles.
Very soon, pupils in Year 8 should get an opportunity to remotely visit the “cité de la voile” (Museum of sail) thanks to Ms Pereira and Ms de Saint Martin (a pupil’s mother), so as to bring to a conclusion this wonderful adventure.
